Chasm iRay rendered using the mirror ball trick

i'll eventually post a tutorial on my site

you create a sphere in daz studio 4.8
apply a polished aluminum shader ( mirror )
render this ball from above looking down
repeat with a camera below the ball and looking up

note that you must not render the whole half-a-ball, so you must figure how to frame at the horizon line
( i rendered the whole hemisphere then cropped at 0.707 of the image size, i'll get the pixel-perfect equation in my tutorial )

then use the program Luminance HDR qtpfsgui.sourceforge.net/
or PanoTools etc

to Transform-Project the 2 images, mirror-ball to cylindrical
( maybe that's not the correct destination format but it seems to work )

then use a paint program to assemble the two halves

for the beach scene i used this method

create a sphere / diameter 1cm / divisions 64 / sides 128 / position ( 0, 150, 0 )
select the sphere / Go in the Surfaces tab / Select the "Default" surface of the sphere
apply the shader / My DAZ 3D Library / Shader Presets / Iray / DAZ Uber / Metal Aluminum Polished
change the Base color to full bright white ( 1.0, 1.0, 1.0 )

Render Settings : Square image, ex : 4000x4000
Render Settings : Environment / Draw Dome / ON
Render Settings : Environment / Environment map / Strength: 1.0 (instead of 2 )
i'm not sure but i think increasing "Environment Lighting Resolution" may improve the results
Render Settings : Environment / Environment map i changed the image to an equirectangular image from www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.h…

create a camera / position ( 0, 157, 0 ) rotation ( -90, 0, 0 )
Select the camera, Parameters tab / Camera settings / Adjust the Focal length until the ball fills the screen ( 233mm )

for the bottom hemisphere renders,
the camera is at ( 0, .1, 0 )
the camera rotations are ( 0, 90, 0 )
adjust the Focal length until the ball fills the screen ( 233mm )
note: if the camera is below ground level, and the iRay ground is ON, the iRay ground will block the view ! that's why we used yPosition = 0.1

this image shows that we must not render the whole surface of the mirror ball in order to get the hemisphere

and here you can see the settings i used to transform from the mirror-ball to the cylindrical format

then i save the image in tif format,

it's an HDR tif i think

my Paintshop pro 5 couldnt open it

when i convert it to png using imagemagick/convert ... it looks a bit dark

but all those issues will be dealt with ... later later later :)

I did these for Carrara a few weeks ago, and have now plugged them all into Iray Base Shaders for use in Daz. I got permission from Nobiax again to redistribute these in another format.

I'd like the community's help in making these perfect for Iray. So far, I have only plugged in the texture maps, set Metallicity on the appropriate presets, set a basic level of SubD and Displacement on the presets that include a displacement map, and set a basic Emission level on the few presets that include those maps.

Please comment below if you find any default tweaks that need to be made to these - too shiny, not shiny enough, looks way better with metallic flakes, etc. Please give detailed info on what you'd like to see changed and renders if possible. I'll rerelease a new version with whatever fixes we come up with, including adding tags. Some normal/spec maps might be incorrect, as I was drag/dropping them into Daz... I noticed a few that didn't take the first time I dropped them onto the channel, so I can't say 100% will be right. Let me know! :P if you want to fix them for your own use before the 1.00 release, all the texture maps are included, you just have to switch it within Daz.

Assembled in DAZ Studio 4.8 Pro Public Build by kaz42 (Daz)/The-Golemancer (DevArt)

328 Daz Studio Iray-compliant shaders made from the "Free Textures Packs 1-55" by Nobiax (ShareCG and DevArt), as well as his free Impact texture set and commissioned Medieval texture set. Please visit Nobiax's pages for some nice free models, as well as links to his Unity and UE4 commercial work.

All shaders include Diffuse and Normal channels. Most include Specular, and a few also include Displacement and Glow.

All shaders are provided as-is. They were made using the default settings other than the texture channels, so some may need additional tweaking (reducing shininess, for instance) to look their best.

These shaders are free for any and all use, including commercial.

Shape Magic is an old program I wrote and use to sell. It’s been free since 2009. It’s a bit archaic yet still functions as a modeler, especially for those just starting out. I thought I’d remind folks that it’s still available.

My site has a lot of free .obj downloads that were designed to work in Bryce and Poser. They also work in Daz Studio 4.7 but you can only assign an overall shader to them and you cannot assign different materials to different zones. My site also has a lot of free design files (.smg) that can be used with Shape Magic and with the right save settings, they will import into DAZ Studio without problem and allow you to assign different materials to different zones.

You can make simple objects with Shape Magic as the examples on my site show. You can also make more complex models by making individual parts in Shape Magic then assembling them in Daz Studio. As an example, today I used my lamp kit design files to make lamp parts and took them into Daz Studio, assembled them, and added shaders. The lamp shade shows the different material zones in use: a linen shader was applied to the overall lamp shade, then a gold shader was applied to just the one zone that creates a band near the bottom.

The tutorials on my site will show you what’s involved in using Shape Magic. There’s not a good tutorial on importing into Daz Studio, but I could add one if there is interest.

Here’s a render with the lamp I mentioned earlier. The lamp is on a chair table from the “Living Room Collection” and it’s displayed in the “Classic Deco: Eclectic 1” interior.

Hi all.

Been busy quite a bit. I decided to release it at this stage.

It contains of the Following:

- A gymnastic Dress that can be changed into a Skating dress with skirt, can change colours, it can also be worn as long dress, all made up from one piece. Of course it has the "Fold", "Drop" and "Hang" morphs and some more. One dress lets you choos all colours you like, you can also hide several parts of it like legs arms or collar with separate Material zones.

- A training dress made of 2 parts, trousers and jacket. Jacket can be opened and both pieces also have the "Drop", "Fold" and "Hang" morphs. It has 10 different Prints ("Blings") for the back and also can take on nearly any colour you like, no matter if you use shaders, colours or pattern pictures.

- A bag that can be opened to put the cloth inside. You can hide the belt if you like.

- A towel with several fold morphs. There is also one Version conforming to G2 for a "around the neck" towel.

I struggled a bit with the skirt. Just conform it using the "Genesis" "basicDress" (if you onw it) or normal Dress option. It should work quite fine, if you select the skirt, there should be all the neede parameters to deform it to your pose.

Hope you like it. Let me know if i forgot to package anything, its such a huge package, I lost view of all things a bit.

Mac people please :
On scenespector's site, there's sample videos and "text export files". You should get those and try them with mcjVooDooDaz, this way you can make sure it works before purchasing VooCat. Then please tell me if it works, cause i dont have a Mac.

To sum it up, you process your video through Voodoo, save the tracking data in a text file, then use mcjVooDooDaz to import the animated camera and the feature point markers in Daz Studio.

New items will only be added here from now on, and the zips that are on ShareCG will eventually be removed, but the links will remain.

UV Setter for Genesis 2: Revised and Updated

I got tired of manually changing the UV sets for my Genesis 2 Males and Females, so I made up a set of 10 presets to make it easier. I would like to share them with all of you, if you are interested.

Use these presets to quickly change the UV map of your character without affecting the material settings. All presets work on both male and female figures. Presets for Poser 9+ are included as well, but while testing them, I didn't seem to need to apply them. All materials I tried to apply already set the UVs. So, if you run into a problem using them in Poser, just let me know and I will see what I can do.

Included are Basic Male, Basic Female, Gia, Girl 6, Michael 4, 5 and 6, Victoria 4, 5 and 6.

***Note that you must have these UV sets installed on your system for the presets to work. So if you don't have V6, then the V6 preset won't do anything and may give an error message.

Presets are located in My Library/Presets/UVSetterGen2 for DAZ Studio and Runtime/Libraries/Materials/UVSetterGen2 in Poser. Also, I made metadata for these, so after you install them to your content folder, you will need to reimport metadata and make sure you uncheck everything except this product, which should be located at the bottom of the list. If you don't uncheck everything else, you will be changing all the metadata you have already set up.

Update March 25, 2014:

I just updated my UVSetterGen2 freebie today to include Olympia and Stephanie 6, and also to include the Generation 5 UVs for Genesis 2, which will be released in the DAZ Store later this week (subject to change). These UVs include Aiko 5, Stephanie 5, Hiro 5, Freak 5 and David 5. The Generation 5 UV presets will only change UVs on Genesis 2 and will do nothing when used on Genesis. You must own any of the figures listed for the UV presets to change anything. So, for example, if you do not own Victoria 6, then the V6_UV preset will do nothing and may even give you an error that the Victoria 6.dsf can't be found.

I hope you all find these useful, I know I use them a lot. The presets will apply the selected UV set to either Genesis 2 Male or Genesis 2 Female, regardless of the intended gender of the UV set. So you can put S6 textures on M6 or Jayden, and vice versa.

Please note that the textures for Creature Creator skins for Genesis 2 Female use the Basic Female UVs, so you would want to use the BF_UV preset on Gen2Male to use the Creature Creator textures.

The backdrop is UV mapped, so you can apply any color, texture or shader on it.

Hi all.

Well, it went faster than I thought:
Here's another little Freebie. A set of 2 Pijamas.
- One is more of a girls Style, with Hang, Drop and Fold Morphs and about 20 Colours. The Pants can be used as Leggings too. (There will be a set with about 40 Colours for the Leggins themself soon). It hast also 20 Prints to use optionally with any of the Styles.
- One is for the bigger Girls, also with the Hang, Drop and Fold Morph together with 7 Morphs to open the Top. It also has about 20 Colours.
