My first freebie character

Well, after working on nothing but textures for awhile, I thought I'd venture out into something more complicated - a character!

https://sharecg.com/v/92435/view/21/DAZ-Studio/Halloween1

She's a "sexy goblin" character with shape and texture.  I have no idea if I packaged everything correctly, but I hope it's close enough!

Freebie: How to create a V4 clone (and transfer other figures) for G8F (now with video!)

$

(June 3rd: Video tutorial now available https://youtu.be/og6YYWasj74 Procedure is slightly different though.)

(August 26: Adjusted title, discovered more possible with this process)

(August 26: Fixed Typo)

As I’m procrastinating on my other tutorial, I thought I’d do a quick tutorial on how to create a V4 clone for G8F. The V4 clone is very strange, in that we must create a V4 shape of G8F in the T-pose rather than the A pose of the other clones.

Creating this clone is rather straightforward: we must use a pre-existing figure’s V4 clone and “copy” its shape over to G8F.

Please note that this clone is purely meant to save time for future renders, as it is effectively the same as fitting V4 clothing to Genesis, then fitting again to G8F. However, this can be adapted to transfer other clones as well.

There's also another easy way to transfer the G8F shape to Genesis 3/2/1, which I can post if enough people are interested.

And finally, please let me know if you have any trouble with this tutorial, or if there are any typos. :)

Preparation:

1. Load Genesis or any figure you own that has a V4 clone. This tutorial uses Genesis because it comes with the V4 clone with additional purchases.

Note: You must load Genesis and not Basic Female!

2. In the Parameters Tab, click on the hamburger button and make sure “Show Hidden Properties” is checked.

3. In the Parameters Tab, click on Genesis/Hidden/Clones.

     a. Locate the Victoria 4 morph. Click on the gear and select “Parameter Settings…”

     b. Uncheck “Locked” and “Use Limits”, then hit Accept.

     c. Dial the Victoria 4 morph to 1.

4. Set Genesis to Base Resolution, then export it as an OBJ. Name it such that you can identify it as the Victoria 4 shape.

Creating the clone:

1. Load “Genesis 8 Female Dev Load”.

2. Fit Genesis onto Genesis 8 Female. Select Genesis/Full-Body in the Autofit configuration.

Note: Depending on how many Genesis Assets you have, this may take a while to process.

3. Confirm that Genesis now looks like Genesis 8 Female. If Genesis does not have female features, then the incorrect auto-fit setting was used.

4. Once it is fitted, hide Genesis 8 Female, then export Genesis as an OBJ. Name it such that you can identify it as the Genesis 8 Female shape.

5. Delete Genesis, then load a fresh copy of Genesis into the scene.

6. Select Genesis, then select Edit/Figure/Geometry/Update Base Geometry. Select Update Vertex Positions, then load the Genesis-G8F shape.

7. Unhide Genesis 8 Female. Both Genesis and G8F should resemble each other now. Under the Transfer Utility, transfer Genesis into G8F using the following settings:

         - Source: Genesis/Default

         - Target: Genesis 8 Female/Default

         - Projection Template: None

         - Only check “Smart Left/Right Filtering”, “Use Near Vertices”, and “Weight Maps”

8. Fit G8F onto Genesis.

9. Using Morph Loader Pro, load the Genesis-V4 shape onto Genesis.

10. Dial in the Genesis-V4 shape on Genesis, and G8F should follow the morph exactly.

11. Hide Genesis, then set G8F to Base Resolution and export it as an OBJ.

Loading the Clone:

1. Clear the Scene and load a fresh copy of “Genesis 8 Female Dev Load”.

2. Using Morph Loader Pro, load the G8F-V4 shape just created. Make sure the Property Group is set to Hidden/Clones.

3. Select Genesis 8 Female. Under the Parameters Tab, enter Hidden/Clones.

4. Enter the properties of the newly created clone morph, then change the Type to Modifier/Clone.

5. To test, try fitting a full-body V4 item to G8F. The V4 clone should now appear.

Saving the Clone:

1. To save the clone, select Genesis 8 Female then File/Save As/Support Asset/Morph Asset.

2. Under Genesis 8 Female, drill down to Hidden/Clone and select the V4 Clone. Choose your library or any appropriate save location, then hit Accept.

3. To confirm that it is saved, close and reopen DAZ Studio, then load G8F and check under Hidden/Clones.

SY 200 Free Morphs for Genesis 8

Available for download at ShareCG and on my deviantart.

This is a set of 200 original morphs for Genesis 8 filling in some gaps I felt there were in the Daz3d Head and Body Morphs and/or that I felt were not really marketable but that I wanted anyway (facial and body asymmetry, for instance).  They're not a substitute for the H&B morphs.  Also, those were made by people who actually know how to sculpt.  You have been warned.

(Free comission) what clothes do you want?

Hi there. I'm a low/mid poly asset seller and recently I'm learning cloth making for DAZ (for my purposes ussually). I want to get better and is best if someone tells me what to do so I can try not only to do what I imagine.

So please, attach me a photo of what you would like and I'll try to do it.

Some guidelines:

1.no props, accesories or rigid armor, because that is a different workflow than I'm trying to get better right now.
2. If there are presets of poses that you want the clothes conform specially well (thin, bulky, muscular, chest options.

. Just mention it so I can put the controllers/morphs.

Right now you guys give had give me enough suggestions for a 24/7 month of working , so if anyone give more suggestion it will be apreciated but only make it if I consider them better than the first ones.

Currently working on varied proposals, until now made some Beta Rachel Dress from Blade Runner, Mad Max Jacket and Minoan Dress but not release the packs yet

when I finish it I'll release the things I've done so far to get some feedback ;)

Fairy or Butterfly Antena for any figure

Created in Blender. A simple antena for fairies and the like, possibly a tail too. File contains 1 antena with two .duf files. Size 841kb.

Not a smart prop. Figure is unparented and will need manual positioning. Use Pelvis for easier positioning.

First proper attempt at such a thing. Possible it didn't weight map properly. (Use SickleYield's tutorial in another thread to re-weight. I can't seem to make weights stick (except in rl, lol) but this time the bones did, so that's a start.)

Free to use. It'd be cool to see what peeps do with it. Here's a silly preview pic (everything but the antena NOT included, but for sale in the store).

Experimental Ghost Shader for Iray in DAZ Studio 4.8

http://www.sharecg.com/v/80867/browse/7/Material-and-Shader/DS-4.8-Iray-Ghost-Shader

Tip: Use a negatively dialed geoshell to avoid shining through eyes and mouth; apply shader to geoshell, too.

Tip Two: If you are using hair, or anything that has transparencies, apply the matching transparency map to Cutout Opacity (set to 1). This is what I did for the mane, fesslocks and tail in the promo image.

Scene Notes Freebie

I was looking for a script/product to do this, and saw someone else was too, so I made a quick notes script.  See my site in the link below for download.

Basically creates (or opens, if it exists) a text-based note using the current Scene name, in a "Notes" folder in the Content Dir.  Handy for storing/retreiving notes against a scene.

Here is some more details:  https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/275321/scene-notes-plugi

<--- Click this image to go direct ot my Freebie page

NOTES: (no pun intended)...you DO have to pre-create a "Notes" folder in your Content Directory.  It says this in the README, but who reads the README?  wink

InTheFlesh Freebies Thread

Hi All,

I'm relatively new to Daz Studio, but have a traditional VFX background. I began using Daz Studio to help speed up personal projects, while also creating my own content to use.

In this thread I'll share links to freebies I create. I'm currently focused on character morphs, but my interests vary widely. I also love hearing ideas that people are looking for, though I will pick and choose what is most relevent for me.

I still have a lot to learn about Daz Studio, so there are bound to be errors and imperfections. I'll fix what I can, but everything is provided as is. All for noncommercial use only.

Please share any artwork you create with my freebies; it's very motivational!

Books To Populate All Those Empty Virtual Bookshelves (Poser Prop PP2 - DAZ Studio Compatible!)

Sat 25 Aug 2018 : The first book row prop is available - see the third post on this thread for details. (N.B. If you do a texture set for this prop you're very welcome to post details, pictures and links to this thread. I'll then add the links up here too)

Mon 27 Aug 2018: Two morph targets to make the bookrow a more realistic stack of books uploaded to this post below. You need to download the two TXT files attached to that post, rename them as OBJ files, and then in Poser/DS apply them to your prop as a morph target.

Mon 27 Aug 2018: With luck mCasual will be posting a script for creating random blocks of books and a morphing book prop as mentioned in this post below.

Wed 5 Sep 2018: mCasual's script is done ! See this post

Sun 9 Sep 2018: illkirch has uploaded a couple of 'Rows of books' props to ShareCG here http://www.sharecg.com/v/92122/browse/11/Poser/Rows-of-books

*NEW* Mon 29 Oct 2018: 3DCheapskate's Six-Bookrows Prop is now uploaded at ShareCG:

Still to do:

  • A 'Lean' morph - it would be nice to have some gaps in the bookrow with adjacent books leaning over
  • Rotation morphs - if  the bookrow is used as abook stack it looks odd with the bottom side allperfectly aligned) Done
  • Single prop with 6 rows of books, for filling a complete set of shelves in one go (in progress)
  • Individual book props (in progress)
  • Geometry-swapping multi-bookrow figure to easily change one row of books for, say, a stack of atlases.

(Original post starts here)

I'm currently playing with a rather simple freebie for populating bookshelves. Six vertices, two faces ! (That's the very, very simplest variant- there are others with more polys, but my goal here is low poly)

It's not quite ready yet, but I've done a first 2048x2048 texture JPG for testing. Yes, the books are duplicated - I said it's a test!

Since I tend to lose stuff that's on my PC I'm posting the JPG here for starters.

I'll post again as and when I make progress.

(Yes, you can use this JPG however you like)

Edit: Added a couple of renders of this texture applied to a 6 vertex/2 face and an 8 vertex/6 face prop

Edit2: With a few vertices and faces for each book (6v/2f for just spine and top, 8v/4f for spine+top+covers, up to 8v/6f for all six sides) there's a lot more flexibility.41 books of different sizes using about 287 vertices/123faces. Still using just the attached JPG for texture. You can probably tell that the covers aresimply UV-mapped to a small section of the spine. The intention was to grab a similar colour swatch - but of course there's sometimes text too.

Edit3: A couple of simple morphs for each book ('bigger','thicker', and 'lean') would add to the fun. 'Bigger' only affects that book. 'Thicker' and 'Lean' require all books to the right to be moved too. 'Lean' won't combine nicely with the other two. Also with 41 books in the prop, theorganisation of the morphs on the UI needs a bit of thought. Maybe a 'Gap' morph would be better than a 'Lean'? A single book prop, leaning, could then be put in the gap.

I'm expecting to do normal/bump (and maybe displacement, for micropolygon-displacement renderers 3Delight and Firefly) maps when I get around to doing hardbacks. Maybe need them for well-readpaperbacks too?
